Supporting residents policy - 4. The Equality Act 2010

This policy sets out how we will deliver our landlord services in accordance with our public sector equality duty to:

  • eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any other conduct prohibited by the Act
  • advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic (as defined by the Equality Act 2010) and people who do not share it by minimising disadvantage suffered by people due to their protected characteristics
  • foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it

The protected characteristics defined by the Equality Act are:

  • age
  • disability
  • gender reassignment
  • marriage or civil partnership (in employment only)
  • pregnancy and maternity
  • race
  • religion or belief
  • sex
  • care experienced (local protection characteristic)

In developing this policy, we have carried out an assessment to inform our approach and check that we are compliant with the Equality Act 2010 and our Public Sector Equality Duty.

An equality impact assessment is a tool that helps ensure decisions, practices and policies within organisations are fair and do not discriminate against any protected group.
