An adaptation is a modification to any aspect of a property which is provided to restore or enable independent living, privacy and dignity for our tenants or a member of their household.
Mobile or non-fixed aids are items or systems that support someone to maintain as much independence as possible. Subject to the assessment outcome, this can include bed hoists, bath boards, walking frames, beds, sofas or chair raisers.
Minor adaptations would not normally exceed £1,000. These include, but are not limited to, grab rails, handrails and stair handrails, flashing doorbells and smoke alarm alerts (for hearing and visually impaired residents), window opening equipment, provision of suitable taps, door handles, internal door threshold ramps or door entry systems.
Major adaptations could exceed £1,000 and require project management resources to make substantial alterations that require structural changes and permanently alter the property. These may include level or ramped access to bedroom or bathroom, fixed ramps and other external facilities, widening of doors and windows, lifts and hoists, stair lifts, specially equipped kitchen, bathrooms or showers. These types of adaptations will all need an assessment and approval from Hammersmith & Fulham Occupational Therapy team.
