Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust

The Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust children's diabetes service provides comprehensive care and support to children with diabetes and their families:

  • each patient gets a key worker from the time they are diagnosed and this keyworker gives personalised support and helps between doctor visits
  • treatments include flexible injection regimens and insulin pump therapy, as well as a variety of support and educational resources
  • the service provides care to children and young people with diabetes from birth to their 19th birthday
  • the team offers care in the community, including home visits and working closely with all the professionals concerned 
  • the team helps young people with diabetes as they transition to adult care

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

The Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust diabetes service specialises in diagnosing and treating children with diabetes.

They:

  • work closely with schools, training teachers to care for diabetic students
  • offer personalised school care plans, a paper that explains what a student needs at school because of their health condition and they also run a weekly diabetes clinic
  • evaluate patients for insulin pump therapy and provides 1-on-1 support
  • offer a 24/7 helpline and care for children until they're 18, including hospital care, teaching, and using advanced technology
