Medical and nursing support

A guide to the various nursing and medical support services that are available, including specialist, community and palliative nurses.

Children's community nurses (CCNs)

CCNs provide nursing care to children and young people with acute or long-term complex needs in their home or community setting, such as a nursery or school.

The CCNs provide hands-on clinical care including:

  • blood tests
  • giving chemotherapy
  • passing nasogastric feeding tubes
  • giving intravenous antibiotics
  • monitoring oxygen

They also teach and support parents and other caregivers, such as extended family and school staff.
