Tenants' and residents' associations (TRAs)

Hammersmith & Fulham is a diverse and thriving borough and community groups such as tenants and residents associations (TRAs) help to bring communities together in an organised way, to make a real difference to people’s lives.

We are committed to resident engagement and working in partnership and co-production with council housing residents to improve and develop services and strengthen communities.

Set up a new tenants and residents association, or join an existing TRA where you live
Have a strong and organised resident voice for your local community. By joining, or setting up a TRA you can:

  • invite members of the senior management team to site visits and meetings
  • meet with your local ward councillor
  • access funding opportunities to improve your local area
  • develop a stronger sense of community and get to know your neighbours better
  • have access to community facilities to hold meetings and events
  • attend training and mentoring events with other TRAs.

Key facts

  • TRAs are made up of an elected Lead Committee and additional committee members.
  • The frequency of committee meetings and events is for individual TRAs to agree, but usually meetings take place on a quarterly basis.
  • The meetings take place in your community.
  • Time commitments vary based on your position on the TRA and the aims and activities that the TRA has agreed.

Guide for tenants & residents associations

We have worked with our TRAs to develop a guide for residents who are thinking about starting a TRA and for existing TRA committees to refer to. It sets out the commonly agreed rules and governance requirements and aims to provide advice and information.
