The purpose of a TRA Constitution

What is a constitution?

A constitution is a set of written rules that determine how an organisation is organised and ran.

We have provided a template for TRAs to adopt as their constitution on pages xx - xx.

What does the constitution cover?

The template constitution includes:

  • The name of the association.
  • The committee structure.
  • The area the association represents.
  • The running of meetings.
  • The association aims and objectives.
  • Equality, Diversity & Inclusion.
  • Voting.
  • Amendments to the constitution.
  • Membership of the association.
  • Financial governance.
  • Code of conduct (acceptable behaviour).
  • Appeals.
  • Procedures for dissolving the association.

We have developed an online course to explain more about TRA constitutions. Sign up to our Get Involved Hub at https://www.hfgetinvolved. org.uk/all-courses, or scan this QR code:

Making amendments to the constitution template

The constitution is your TRA’s document. It needs to be adopted by your TRA.

Your association may wish to make amendments to the constitution to reflect the agreed aims and objectives and priorities in your community. The constitution template has been developed and agreed with residents. We ask that amendments are limited to clarifications and additions and that sections of the template are not removed.

Please see the H&F Registration & Grant Policy for more information on acceptable standards to be a registered TRA.

Signing the constitution

Your TRA constitution only needs to be signed once by the TRA Chair and Secretary at the time it is adopted by the TRA.
