Start for Life

Start for Life support is available through our family hubs, for you and your family. Support is available from pregnancy to birth, from 0 to 36 months.

Birth to 3 months – Start for Life

Your midwife will support you:

  • during your pregnancy
  • the birth of your baby
  • for at least 10 days after you have given birth

Mental health support

Your midwife will ask you about your mental health, as she knows it is low mood and anxiety at this time and wants to support you.

If you had a difficult birth previously, and feel anxious about the birth of this baby tell your midwife. She may refer for extra support.

You can access midwife services at:

Health visitor services

Within 14 days of the birth of your baby, a health visitor will make a home visit to review you and your baby's wellbeing.

Healthy weight service

Your baby may be referred to the NHS healthy weight service. This service supports children to grow into a healthier weight or maintain a healthy weight, rather than lose weight.

Baby weigh

Baby weigh is also available from birth to 5 years old. This is a service where you can discuss any health issues and have your baby weighed and measured.

This service is available at:

Children's centre groups

You will also be invited to access children's centre groups. This invitation will be after your baby is born and includes:

  • baby massage
  • development advice
  • communication advice
  • infant feeding support
