Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) service

Speech and Language Therapy Services at Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust

The Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) service is provided by Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust

The SLT service provides support for children and young people (CYP) registered at a GP in Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster, aged 0 to 18 years, who have speech, language, communication differences.

The team of speech and language therapists collaborates parents, carers, and professionals.

They work with children and families in many ways, including:

  • Offering assessments
  • Providing therapy in groups or individual sessions
  • Providing online sessions to parents
  • Providing free online training to professionals to give them the skills and confidence to support the children they work with
  • Working in various locations: schools, nurseries, children’s centres, and clinics
  • Collaborating with professionals to help children
  • Giving tips, advice, and strategies.

The service works on the principle that the speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) of children and young people can be met through a whole system approach to support. The whole system approach recognises that everyone has a role to play in supporting CYP’s language and communication skills.

This approach aims to empower parents and professionals to support children and young people reach their potential with the right balance of support, whatever their level of ability and preferred communication method.
