If your child is 5 years and over and you have concerns about her/his expressive language, understanding, speech sounds, stammering or fluency, the school SENCO (special educational needs coordinator), school nurse or GP can support you and your child. The SENCO is the designated staff member to oversee and coordinate support for children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) at school.
Talk to your SENCO who can get further support from a range of services and will help to determine the right service to meet your child's needs. The services that can advise and support include:
The Joint Communication Team
The Joint Communication team is a group of specialist teachers and speech and language therapists. They will work with the school to understand the child or young person's needs and plan the best package of support. The team also runs workshops for parents and professionals.
