Help for young Disabled people looking for work

Employment support can include:

  • Finding out what you need support with so that you can get a job
  • Understanding job adverts
  • Filling in application forms
  • Writing cover letters and CVs
  • Preparing for interviews
  • Getting ready to start a job.

The Supported internships programme

The Supported internships programme supports young people 18-24 with moderate learning disabilities (MLD) and an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan to gain skills, knowledge and attitudes in preparation for paid employment through training and direct work experience.

Employment Services – Action On Disability

Employment Services – Action On Disability (aod.org.uk) works with young disabled people through supported internships that AOD have a partnership with to secure employment for the graduates. See applications on colleges websites to find out more.

Shaw Trust

Shaw Trust (Employment Opportunities for People with Disabilities) can help disable young people aged 18 and over. The Shaw Trust is a free, voluntary service and helps to find meaningful employment. You need to be living in the borough and not in work. To apply please complete the referral form on the website or contact 0808 134 6215 or scfepathways@shaw-trust.org.uk

University of West London - Ealing Mencap

The University of West London - Ealing Mencap is a supported internship programme. It will give you hands-on experience in a variety of support departments at the University and the workplace skills and confidence to help you find a paid job. Ealing Mencap provides job coaches and works with West London College to provide this 1-year employment program. H&F residents can apply for this programme. Contact steve.poole@ealingmencap.org.uk
