If you have concerns about your child's speech, language and communication needs the first person to speak is your health visitor, school nurse or GP.

The school (SENCO) who is a teacher that coordinates the provision for children with special educational needs or disabilities in schools can also help and advise. All these professionals can help to refer your child to the appropriate services to ensure meet the child's needs.

The Ages and stages - Speech and Language UK guide shows the typical stages of speech and language development in babies, children and young people and includes information on how to help your child learn to talk and understand words. The guide includes a Child's Progress checker. Please choose the age of the child and then answer the questions. At the end, it will direct you to some helpful advice and resources.
