Hammersmith & Fulham's waste team is continuing to support the council's ambitious work to reduce our carbon footprint with the help of 20 new electric vehicles.
The team will use the new eco-friendly fleet to collect food and general waste, empty recycling bins, clean H&F's public footways, remove illegally dumped fly-tipping and more.
The waste team's new fleet of cargo bikes, electric vans and cage trucks was launched in July in collaboration with contractors Veolia in Furnival Gardens.
Cllr Sharon Holder, H&F Cabinet Member for Public Realm said:
"Our waste team continues to ensure H&F's parks and streets are safe and clean for residents, visitors and local wildlife. The new vehicles will help us go one step further as the waste team will now also be helping to reduce air pollution while they work."
Cleaner, greener, quieter
We're building on our work to grow the country's greenest borough, and our move to electric tools and vehicles is part of that. In 2022 our parks maintenance team went electric, and they've now been joined by our waste team.
These electric vehicles produce no exhaust emissions, so they play a massive part in helping H&F Council reduce local levels of air pollution – keeping our air cleaner.
The vehicles will be much quieter than diesel and petrol-powered cars. This means the waste team's new fleet will create less noise pollution in H&F's parks and around H&F's streets.
Fully decked out
The new fleet includes eight electric cargo bikes. The bikes are part of our effort to continue to reduce the use of petrol-powered vans in difficult to reach areas, like the Thames Pathway.
Old petrol and diesel vehicles will be replaced by electric vans and cage trucks used to collect fly-tipped waste and sacks from public litter bins.
And an electric bin truck has also joined the team and will be used as part of H&F's new garden waste collection service. To sign up to the new garden waste collection service, register here.
