The search has begun for an independent chair to oversee the borough's ambitious and creative new Cultural Strategy.

Hammersmith & Fulham Council is working in partnership with 11 other local arts and cultural leaders in our new Cultural Compact to celebrate the critical role that arts, culture and heritage plays locally in driving economic growth and inclusion.

Included in the Cultural Compact are representatives from the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre, the Fulham Palace Trust, the Bhavan Centre, Nubian Life and the Sands End Arts & Community Centre.

Cllr Sharon Holder, H&F Cabinet Member for Public Realm and member of the Cultural Compact, says: "We're looking for a local independent champion of arts and culture with a strong personal or professional connection to H&F. This will ensure we continue to improve this vital part of our local economy and help us continue to do things with residents, not to them."

Amy Belson, Executive Director and Joint CEO at Lyric Hammersmith Theatre and member of the Cultural Compact, adds: "H&F has an inspiring and vibrant cultural community, providing creative opportunities for residents, workers and visitors to the borough. Led by a new independent chair, the work of the Cultural Compact will provide an opportunity to collaborate, amplify and build on the incredible work that is already happening here in H&F."

Home of arts and culture

H&F's Cultural Strategy was unveiled in October 2023 and demonstrates our long-standing commitment to local arts and culture.

It was produced after extensive discussions with more than 650 local people, including 70 from our local cultural partners.

Specifically, the Cultural Compact intends to work with the local arts and cultural community to ensure the strategy remains relevant, useful and effective.

The chair will become an important figurehead for the borough's cultural life, representing the borough in discussions with high-profile groups such as Arts Council England, National Lottery Heritage Fund and Historic England, as well as champion equality and diversity at all times.
