Meet the Shepherds Bush entrepreneur connecting local businesses with new customers

Dom Masterton-Smith's new digital directory website has H&F's businesses talking.

A new website created by a Shepherds Bush resident is making waves by helping local entrepreneurs boost their businesses.

The digital directory - Hammersmith Businesswas created by Dom Masterton-Smith. It includes profiles on small business owners and divides companies by service, making it easier for residents to shop for what they want.

Dom said:

There’s a growing trend towards people wanting to buy from local businesses, and there are lots of brilliant companies in the area. So, I wanted to create a local directory-style site to help these firms share their stories and connect with new audiences.”

All customers need to do is choose between ‘business services’, ‘home and garden’, and ‘food and drink’ before being able to browse the different local businesses available on their doorstep.

Any business that operates in and around Hammersmith can sign up. There are three membership levels, including a free option.

In June, H&F businesses can enjoy 50 per cent off their first month membership by entering the discount code LBHF50 at checkout.

Growing in numbers

Since launching last November, the site has become home to local names including Hammersmith seafood restaurant Faber, female founded estate agents The Property Moms and ant entrepreneur Ants HQ.

Cesar Wang, founder of Ants HQ, said:

“I saw a definite jump in our online traffic after we signed up as members. So, it’s been a very cost-effective digital investment for the business.”

Daniel Adams, director at Travel Counsellors, Fulham, added:

“I received a new enquiry from someone who had found my profile, and I ended up planning their holiday. I now recommend the site to all my local contacts.”

“Many businesses have a limited online presence, or rely solely on social media,” explained Dom. “The site offers a low-cost way for companies to reach new audiences locally.”

Find new hires

Since launching the site, Dom has also added Hammersmith Jobs – a local jobs board and email newsletter.

“Speaking to recruiters, it’s clear that local firms want to draw on the amazing talent available to them in the area,” says Dom. “Our jobs board and newsletter help them reach local jobseekers looking for new opportunities without a long commute.”

While everyone’s story is different, explains Dom, the website’s interviews include one consistent piece of advice.

“If you’re planning to set up a new business in the borough, there’s no better starting point than speaking to the business team at H&F.”
