About apprenticeships
Apprenticeships are a great way to unlock the potential of people of all ages and provide a route into a successful and fulfilling career.
If you're interested in becoming an H&F apprentice, why not find out why some of our past apprentices decided to apply:
You can also check out our myth-busting poster made by Simona Nastac, a current apprentice in the H&F Staff Engagement Team:
Myth: Apprenticeships are only for young people.
Fact: Apprenticeships are now for anyone aged 16+! The average age of an apprentice at H&F Council is 29. We also have apprentices who are over 60. It's never too late to earn and learn!
Myth: An apprentice is someone taking the first steps in their career.
Fact: The programme is often taken up by people who are already highly skilled. Apprenticeships are available from level 2 (GCSE equivalent) right through to Levels 6 and 7 (equivalent to a Bachelor's or Master's degree).
Myth: Apprentices are poorly paid.
Fact: Apprentices at H&F Council are paid the London Living Wage (currently £11.05 per hour) in line with our commitment to 'Build Shared Prosperity'.
Myth: Apprentices do not do meaningful work.
Fact: Every apprentice at H&F Council is doing a real job alongside experienced council officers who are making a difference every day for our residents.
Myth: Apprenticeships do not lead to a full-time job as they are only fixed term contracts.
Fact: Ninety per cent of our apprentices who have completed their apprenticeship have successfully obtained another position either with our council or another organisation.
