Where the property is reasonably believed to be abandoned and there is no reasonable indication of intention to return, we will serve a Notice to Quit on the tenant at the property and any other known addresses.
Following expiry of the Notice, the tenancy will end, and we will take possession of the property. The decision to take possession will be made by a Neighbourhood Services Manager with due regard to all available evidence.
Where it is unclear whether the property has been abandoned but there is reason to believe the tenant is not occupying the property as their only or principal home, we may serve a Notice of Seeking Possession under the Housing Act 1985. This may be served concurrently and without prejudice to any Notice to Quit.
Once security of tenure has been lost, it cannot be regained by the tenant moving back into the property.
