If we are unable to contact a resident and cannot confirm their whereabouts then we will investigate further to check on their wellbeing. This includes checking the property for signs that it has been lived in, checking our files for any previous information we have on the tenant, in line with our LBHF supporting our residents policy, and contacting known next of kin. If there is a history of domestic abuse, we will take relevant action in line with our LBHF housing services' domestic abuse policy.
If we cannot make contact and are concerned, we will contact the police to report the tenant missing and request further welfare checks. If the tenant has care and support needs, or we suspect that they might have care or support needs, we will raise an immediate safeguarding referral.
For tenants in sheltered housing who are missing, we will refer to the appropriate agency for a risk assessment to be carried to determine their wellbeing. Where appropriate, we will work with the relevant external agency to implement preventative measures to reduce the risk of the tenant going missing in future.
