The well-supported lecture series to help Shepherds Bush charity The Upper Room is back for a fresh run, with a tennis star and a Doctor Who actor among the speakers.

Talks will help fund the work of volunteers at St Saviour's, Cobbold Road, supplying meals, counselling and advice to homeless and vulnerable people, and helping ex-offenders find work and turn their lives around.

The first talk, on 13 March, saw Doctor Who star David Tennant interviewed by comedian Deborah Frances-White at St Peter's church, Acton Green.

Next up, on Thursday 3 April, is BBC health editor, and long-time Upper Room supporter, Hugh Pym, being interviewed by his former colleague Torin Douglas on the impact, five years on, of Covid on the NHS.

The evening is being staged at St Michael & All Angels, Bedford Park, from 7pm. Entry is free, but £20 donations are being requested. Tickets available here.

Then on Thursday 8 May at 8pm, investigative journalist Dan Evans will be the guest speaker at St Saviour's. Dan was a whistleblower at the heart of the phone hacking scandal that engulfed the tabloids, giving evidence in court for the Crown in a string of trials.

On Thursday 22 May at 8pm at St Michael & All Angels, tennis star and media personality Annabel Croft will be in the spotlight.

The Upper Room began life three decades ago as a soup kitchen, and still supplies hot meals to those in need. But it has broadened its range of services to offer more practical help to homeless and people in need.
