White City resident works with council to build a better community

Johaan Seesahai is following in his father’s footsteps to improve housing services for local people.

Johaan has lived in H&F for 30 years and is determined to make H&F a better place for local residents.

The White City Estate resident is Chair of the resident-led Housing and Estates working group which is working with the council to improve the housing service.

"I'm proud to be part of this group. It's a chance to make sure residents are getting the best service and value for money," said Johaan.

"This working group gives us the opportunity to provide our views, flag when things are not going right and help the council to continue moving the housing service in the right direction."

His father John was a committee member on the Tenant and Resident Association (TRA) for White City Estate.

"My father was the voice of the community and a very well-known figure locally. When he sadly passed away, I was invited to get involved with the TRA to continue his work in the local community," added Johaan.

H&F Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness, Cllr Frances Umeh, said: "Johaan has been a dedicated member of the group who has helped us deliver resident-led improvements to the housing service.

"Just like his dad, he's helping to make sure our estates and housing services are run well. For example, ensuring effective cleaning and maintenance services are in place."

Positive change

Johaan was Co-Chair of the TRA before becoming the Chair of the Housing and Estates Working Group three years ago.

He has seen positive change in the housing service in this time with council officers listening to residents and bringing improvements to the service.

"We've been involved in and worked with so many different teams across the council. We've supported the procurement process for new contractors to make sure residents are getting the best deal and have worked with the Director of Public Protection to tackle anti-social behaviour," added Johaan.

"We've also worked with the council to update all noticeboards across estates so that all residents have the information they need at their fingertips. We will continue to work closely with the council to bring the improvements needed."
