A new zebra crossing has been welcomed by residents in Fulham's North End Road as part of our efforts to improve pedestrian safety.
H&F Council installed the crossing after the local residents' association raised concerns about crossing the busy road.
It is located between the bus stops serving the West Kensington and Gibbs Green estate and the Maystar estate in Fulham. It is also close to a medical centre and a pharmacy.
Michael Gannon, of the Maystar Tenants and Residents' Association, said: "We're delighted the council were so helpful in responding quickly to our concerns about pedestrian safety.
"The old crossing posed particular challenges for those with mobility issues, children and the elderly."
A formal opening ceremony was held on Sunday 24 November.
Added Michael: "Residents are already very happy with the upgrade. Now they can cross the road, and the traffic has to stop, making walking around the area easier and safer."
Further improvements
Other road safety improvements from the council include:
- new zebra crossings in Dawes Road and Star Road
- implementing a new one-way system in Walham Grove, Micklethwaite Road and Devonport Road to improve traffic flow and safety
- three pilot School Streets Plus schemes at Sir John Lillie, Wendell Park and Holy Cross Catholic primary schools.
H&F Cabinet Member for Public Realm, Cllr Sharon Holder, said: "We continue to listen and work with residents to improve road safety for local people. This is the latest example of how the council is doing things with residents to make H&F a safer place."
