Transport for London will be digging holes in Hammersmith Road in November.
But TfL say the work has been timetabled so there will be no disruption in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
Essential survey work is being carried out in short stages on the road and footpaths from 18 November until the end of the month.
The final stretch of roadworks, between the junctions of Bute Gardens and Wolverton Gardens near the Broadway, is due to finish by 30 November.
Further work is planned in January and February – between the heart of Hammersmith and Kensington High Street.
Most work will be at night, from 10pm until 5am, to minimise disruption to traffic and buses, and some bus stops will be affected.
Access to the side streets off Hammersmith Road may be temporarily closed on some nights, but residents will be given advance warning by letter and signs.
