100 BIKE HANGARS: West Ken resident now pedals towards French triathlon

From kitchen storage to triathlon training – our cycle hangar rollout is helping residents get on their bikes

Milestone celebration in Trevanion Road, W14. F-l-t-r: Local resident Victoria Gomez, Tom Pelling (Key Account Manager, Cyclehoop) and Philippa Robb (Senior Smarter Transport Officer, H&F)

When Victoria Gomez secured a spot in one of H&F's newest cycle hangars, it changed more than just where she stored her bike – it kickstarted her journey to compete in a triathlon.

Victoria had spent two years searching for her perfect bike, but when she finally found it, there was just one problem: where to keep it. Her kitchen wasn't exactly ideal.

With our 100th secure bike hangar now installed, those days of creative storage solutions are long gone.

It's part of our programme to install 500 hangars by 2027, creating 3,000 new parking spots – one for every resident currently waiting for a space. In recent months, dozens of new hangars have been installed across the borough, with many still having spaces available for residents.

From Fulham to France

For Victoria, getting a spot in the new Trevanion Road hangar in W14 has been life-changing, having initially had to keep her bike in her compact West Kensington flat.

"We call it the shoe box," the 26-year-old sustainability consultant said laughing. "The bike lived in our kitchen space for a week before I got the hangar spot." She added:

I wouldn't have bought the bike without knowing I could get a hangar spot. Having secure storage gives me independence and control over how I travel."

The secure storage couldn't have come at a better time.

Victoria recently joined a local triathlon club, Ful-On Tri, and is now training for her first Half Ironman in Provence next May.

"My 90-year-old grannies will be there to support," she said. "My dad's saying he needs to train as well – to push them along the trek so they can all cheer me on."
