Vape users, your discarded e-cigarettes are causing serious fires. It's time to act.

Vapes tossed in regular bins end up in garbage trucks and waste facilities. When crushed along with other waste, their batteries can ignite and spark dangerous fires, putting waste workers and our community at risk.

Fortunately, recycling your vape has never been easier. All vape retailers in H&F must offer recycling services to customers. When purchasing a new vape, you can conveniently return your old one for proper disposal.

Many shops have even set up dedicated recycling bins, allowing you to drop off used vapes at any time.

Recycle at your local library

For those who prefer alternative drop-off points, we've also placed dedicated vape collection bins in every library across the borough.

These clearly marked containers are located near the entrance, making it simple to dispose of your used vapes safely during regular library hours.

Cllr Sharon Holder, H&F Cabinet Member for Public Realm, said:

By providing these convenient recycling points, we're making it easier than ever for residents to dispose of vapes responsibly. It's a small action that can prevent potentially devastating consequences."

Our libraries continue to serve as recycling hubs for various items beyond vapes, including:

  • Light bulbs
  • Batteries
  • Small electrical items
  • Laptops and other electronics
  • Textiles

By using these expanded recycling options, H&F residents can help reduce fire risks, protect waste workers, and support our borough's environmental goals.

Scott Edgell, General Manager at Veolia South London, said: "We're proud to deliver essential recycling services for Hammersmith & Fulham residents and ask them to help us keep our people and the communities we serve safe by using dedicated recycling facilities for dangerous items.

"Keeping vapes out of household and on-street bins protects the people who carry out essential services as well as the environment."
