Hammersmith & Fulham Council is trialling new smart sensors to help keep residents' homes dry and safe.
The sensors provide the council's dedicated damp and mould team with live data on room temperatures and humidity levels in the property.
The smart sensors pilot forms part of the work the council is doing to address damp and mould in council homes.
H&F Council is investing £1.4million a week to modernise residents' homes to make them safe and comfortable.
"Our number one priority is to keep residents safe. This innovative, proactive and preventative approach to damp and mould will help keep residents in a warm, safe and decent home. We continue to make improvements to our housing service to make H&F the best place to live in a council home in Britain," said H&F Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness, Cllr Frances Umeh.
A surveyor will get in touch with residents to set up a home visit if the smart sensor data indicates any potential damp and mould problems, and can also provide guidance or arrange for any necessary fixes, if needed.
The council is also working closely with NHS and public health colleagues as part of this pilot to ensure residents are receiving all the support they need.
Driving down damp and mould
More than 1,100 damp and mould jobs overall have been successfully completed since April 2023.
The council is offering some residents a hygrometer to measure condensation levels in their homes to help prevent damp and mould issues.
The team has also introduced a new call back service. All tenants are contacted after six weeks to check all mould treatment works carried out have resolved any issues in their home.
A damp and mould booklet was also developed together with residents to keep tenants informed on how the council can support them.
