A large amount of concrete was illegally dumped down their sewer pipes which was threatening to affect water supply to local residents and businesses. Now removed, Thames Water is investigating the party responsible to reclaim costs for the repair of the sewer and disruption to local businesses.

North End Road was closed for the emergency works between Sedlescombe Road and Lillie Road since Friday 16 February, to allow for the full excavation and extraction of the concrete blockage.

Disruption and investigation

Prior to the work, Thames Water had to pump out the sewer daily to prevent nearby homes and businesses from flooding.

Thames Water contractors worked extended hours seven days a week on the complex operation. It was completed seven days ahead of schedule.

While the road closure was in place, Hammersmith & Fulham Council carried out necessary maintenance work, which included the cleaning out of gullies along North End Road.

Throughout these works, North End Road's historic market remained open for business as usual during the repairs – open six days a week, Monday to Saturday, from 8am to 6pm.

Thames Water now has a dedicated team investigating who illegally dumped the concrete.
