We've given the playground in Brook Green a major refurbishment with help from a donation from the Friends of Brook Green.
The playground – located in the middle of the Green Flag award-winning park in Hammersmith – has 13 new pieces of equipment including an accessible basket swing and five interactive play panels after its £53,000 upgrade.
"The new play equipment in Brook Green is part of our efforts to keep H&F a great place to grow up and live," said Cllr Sharon Holder, H&F Cabinet Member for Public Realm.
"We have more than 50 popular parks and green spaces and we encourage everyone to join their local Friends group to help us make these improvements across the borough."
New and improved
The resident-led Friends of Brook Green contributed more than £3,800 to this phase of the project from their fundraising efforts, with the remainder paid through our tough negotiations with developers.
The park's youngest visitors can now enjoy four new cradle swings and practice their gymnastics on the balance beam and stepping stones.
The space has also been fitted out with new springers, including one four-person seater, and three shaped like a ladybird, a horse, and a hen.
The renovations were carried out in partnership with Kompan and H&F's parks maintenance contractor idverde.
A year of improvements
The new playground marks the end of a larger set of refurbishments in Brook Green that total more than £100,000.
Last December, H&F and the Friends resurfaced the park's play mounds and tackled subsidence damage, with the friends contributing almost £15,000 to the £20,000 re-surfacing project.
We have also installed a vehicle gate and path to protect the park during future deliveries and, with a further contribution from the Friends, repaired the perimeter of the sand pits. In total the Friends have contributed over £30,000 to improving Brook Green Playground.
