Living advent calendar shines a light on Brook Green

Kicking off on Friday 1 December, the Brook Green Living Advent Calendar will see a new illumination lighting up a local window every day until Christmas.

A Brook Green window illuminated as part of the Living Advent Calendar

There's a surprise in store each day throughout December as Brook Green transforms into a lifesize walkable advent calendar to spread the joy of the festive season.

Kicking off on Friday 1 December, the Brook Green Living Advent Calendar will see a new illumination lighting up a local window every day until Christmas.

Christmas trees, tinsel, baubles and sparkling lights will create a magical community art event in support of local charity West London Action for Children.

The decorations will adorn local houses, businesses, schools, shops and pubs around the streets of Brook Green, with each highlighting a date in December.

At least one window will be newly-opened each day from 4-8pm up to Christmas Eve, before all the festive windows remain illuminated until 30 December.

Families, friends and local residents can follow a trail around the windows to explore the full living advent calendar.

Local families in need

Now in its third year, the volunteer-led event aims to raise donations to help the charity in its work to provide free counselling and therapy for local families in need.

Heather Boxer, chief executive of West London Action for Children, explains: "As the festive season draws near, West London Action for Children offers a heartfelt invitation to come together to support vulnerable families throughout December, and beyond.

"Initiatives like these enable WLAC to continue their work providing free counselling and therapy services, to help make a positive impact on the lives of those in need in our community."

The living advent calendar event was launched in 2021 and raised £800 in donations for the charity.
