Hammersmith & Fulham threw a special Eurovision party for our local Ukrainian refugees on Saturday (13 May).
The musical bash took place at Riverside Studios and was attended by more than 80 refugees who have been supported by H&F since fleeing Russia's invasion.
The partiers were just a fraction of the 11 million viewers on the night, all waiting to see who would rule victorious in Liverpool, after Ukraine's triumph last year with Stefania by the Kalush Orchestra.
"We continue to do all we can to support the Ukrainian refugees in H&F as the war in Ukraine continues to rage on," said Cllr Bora Kwon, H&F Cabinet Member for Civic Renewal.
"H&F is a borough for all. We support refugees from around the world making a home in H&F. This is all part of our work to build a stronger, safer, kinder borough."
Fun, food and music
As well as the live screening, there were games for the children and a live performance by the Ukrainian Choir who sang a medley of traditional songs including Ukraine's national anthem.
The youngest viewers were also treated to ice cream from Cllr Stephen Cowan, Leader of H&F, and Cllr Rebecca Harvey, Lead Cabinet Member for Social Inclusion and Community Safety.
The celebration ended with the Eurovision finale and the crowning of Sweden's song Tattoo as 2023's winner.
Escaping persecution
H&F stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and is a home for anyone escaping conflict, war or persecution.
Since 2022 H&F's residents have opened their homes to more than 500 Ukrainian refugees fleeing Russia's invasion.
This has included more than 75 school aged children who have been welcomed into local schools.
