The netball team at St Stephen's Primary have been crowned the best in London.

Basking in the 20-degree heat, the Shepherds Bush team beat Barnet 6-1 to win the competition on Thursday 24 March at the Redbridge Sports Centre.

The squad, made up of eight Year 5 and 6 pupils, faced tough competition during their quarter and semi-final matches.

Teams were required to play the "Bee Stingers" form of netball throughout the Games. For each eight-minute match players must rotate positions, meaning they have to work well together and adapt quickly each match to their new position.

"The quarter final was definitely the most stressful game of the day" said Clare Howard-Vyse, PE Lead at St Stephen's.

"We won against Kingston, 2-1, but it was a real challenge and the team had to really support each other and rely on their excellent teamwork to get the win."

St Stephen's were chosen to represent H&F at the Games after winning the borough-wide H&F primary school competition back in January.

"We weren't expecting to win the H&F competition, let alone the Games. It was a huge surprise, and the team were so excited. We'll be going out for frappuchinos at some point as a celebratory prize," Clare added.

Other success

St Stephen's weren't the only H&F team to bring home a medal.

St John's Walham Green's girls' football team, made up of the pupils from Year 3 and 4, won a bronze medal at the Games.
