Thirty new homes completed at new Mo Mowlam House

Thirty new genuinely affordable homes for local residents were officially opened today at Mo Mowlam House.

Thirty new genuinely affordable homes for local residents and a new centre for the charity Action on Disability was officially opened today at Mo Mowlam House on the Clem Attlee Estate in Fulham.

Eighteen of the new flats will be at social rent, twelve will offer shared ownership and three will be accessible for Disabled people. The new Action on Disability centre will deliver employment and advice services. The scheme forms part of H&F's programme to build another 3,000 new homes over the next eight years with 60 per cent classified as genuinely affordable.

The new Mo Mowlam House is named after the former Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, who led the peace process which culminated in the Good Friday Agreement in 1998. Dr Mowlam's stepchildren, Henrietta and Freddie Norton attended alongside Lord Dubs who had worked for Dr Mowlam as a Northern Ireland Minister.

Speaking at the event, H&F Leader Councillor Stephen Cowan said "Genuinely affordable homes and better life chances for Disabled people are two things Mo Mowlam was passionate about. It is good we have been able to deliver more of these in this beautiful new building that now carries her name."

The CEO of Shepherds Bush Housing Group, Matt Campion, said he was delighted to be involved in a project that is delivering much needed social housing and thanked H&F Council for providing both the idea and the land for such an innovative and affordable scheme.

Henrietta Norton cut the ribbon to open the building declaring "All round it feels like the absolutely perfect building to be called Mo Mowlam House" with Lord Dubs adding "Mo would have been very proud to be associated with such a stunning and important building."
