Are you a Disabled resident? Do you want to help make H&F the best place for Disabled people to live?
If you live, work, study or volunteer in Hammersmith & Fulham, sign up for Action on Disability's (AOD) FREE coproduction training.
The course
Excitingly, the course will cover a range of different issues from the history of Disabled peoples' struggle for equality in H&F, through to the principles of coproduction, Disability equality and independent living.
There will also be information on how to get practically involved in current local opportunities, and how to remove the barriers that Disabled residents still experience.
Coproduction is all about residents working together with individuals such as councillors and council officers to make H&F as accessible and inclusive as possible.
Come and share your ideas to help shape H&F's Vision for Independent Living work that is ensuring Disabled residents have the same choices, controls, and freedoms as everyone else.
Or why not voice your thoughts about the Disabled People's Housing Strategy and ongoing work on community development projects across the borough. These are exciting developments, with many occurring nowhere else in the country.
The earlier pioneering work of our unique local Disabled People's Commission, made up of local Disabled residents highlighted that Disabled people were not overly involved in decisions that affected their lives.
The commission wanted to change that experience, and this new training is a great opportunity to meet other Disabled residents, develop new skills and confidence, and support the commitment to making 'Nothing About Disabled People Without Disabled People' a reality in H&F.
The training course is free to attend, and all participants will be paid £25 per session for taking part. All sessions will take place on Zoom, and Disabled people will be running the course.
When will the course take place?
AOD is encouraging all participants to attend all seven sessions at the following times:
- Saturday 29 January – 10:30am-3:30pm
- Tuesday 8 February – 6-9pm
- Tuesday 22 February – 6-9pm
- Tuesday 1 March – 6-9pm
- Tuesday 8 March – 6-9pm
- Tuesday 15 March – 6-9pm
- Tuesday 22 March – 6-9pm.
Cllr Patricia Quigley, Assistant to Cabinet for Health and Adult Social Care, said: "Hammersmith & Fulham Council is fully committed to involving Disabled people in every area of council decision-making. So we are delighted to support this series of Action on Disability coproduction training sessions and hope they generate new ideas and draw in a wide range of Disabled people to this vital part of our work."
