Celebrating National Co-production Week

The week promotes the benefits working with residents has in shaping council services.

We're celebrating National Co-production Week 2021

National Co-production Week (5 to 9 July) is back for a sixth year to celebrate the benefits of co-production, share good practice and promote the contribution of people who use services and in developing better public services.

Find out more about National Co-production Week.

In H&F, we are committed to 'Doing things with residents and not to them'. Residents, community organisations, councillors and council officers all working together, through co-production, is the best way to bring that commitment to life.

Co-production is often focused around social care, but locally we recognise the value of working together with residents across all our services.

Watch the following videos to hear from Councillor Ben Coleman, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care as he highlights our commitment to co-production. And from Disabled resident, Jane Wilmot, who highlights the importance and value of co-production. Transcripts of the videos are available on their YouTube pages.

Positive change

Although it takes time to make all the changes that we want to make, we have made a positive start.

Residents have recently been involved:

  • in shaping the inclusive design and accessibility of our new award-winning Civic Campus development
  • developing a new direct payment support service, funded by the council, based at Action on Disability (AOD), a local Disabled People's Organisation (DPO). The service delivers all aspects of direct payment advice and support as well as facilitating peer support, so direct payment users learn and gain strength from each other
  • in the Disability Forum Planning Group, a Disabled resident group that provides advice to Hammersmith & Fulham Council on making sure that planning applications create new buildings are accessible and inclusive that work for everyone
  • the development of a new Disabled People's Housing strategy which was co-produced with Disabled resident and will focus on providing good quality housing which will be accessible and affordable.
