History
Wormholt Park opened on 27 June 1911. An open air lido opened next to it in 1923, a bandstand was built in 1931 and a bowling green was opened in 1936. During the Second World War the park was dug up and turned into allotments and shelter trenches.
Post-war the park became a community hub with school sports days, grand Bank Holiday events and a giant tented theatre. During the 1980s the neighbouring swimming pool and bowling green closed and the area was in need of some regeneration. In 2009 a group of residents came together to initiate new plans for the park and the area was uplifted. In 2011 the group became the Friends of Wormholt Park.
