Q House offers children and young people (aged 8 - 18) new experiences to make a positive difference in their lives. They will be supported to achieve independence and learn life skills.They will also have opportunities to make and build friendships, socialise with their peers and attend community activities and social events.
Referral
Children with complex needs and disabilities can assess this specialist support if this is assessed as being needed by a social worker or the Disabled Children's Team.
Facilities
Q House is a purpose-built four bedroom short breaks/respite service within Queensmill School. It is lcoated on the first floor and has a multisensory activity room within the immediate vicinity.
Each room has an ensuite toilet. The shower room is state-of-the art and comprises of two spacious showers. There is a multi-functional, spacious main hub room with a kitchenette to prepare breakfast and snacks.
Main meals and lunches will be prepared by the school's award-winning chef and his team and served in the dining hall.
Children and young people will have acess to a range of activities within the school grounds and some community access, including:
- soft play
- body shop
- wet play room
- multifunctional sensory room
- games
- iPad
- puzzles
- TV's, DVD's and CD's
- music
- musical instruments
- outdoor activities (climbing frame, swings, mini trampoline, grass area)
- access to bicycles
- arts and crafts
- yoga
- support with homework
Support for the individual
Each child will have a holistic support plan which will be agreed with parents/carers. It will include realistic and achievable target(s) so the child or young person can obtain new skills and gain independence. Detailed risk assessments will also be in place to ensure all children are safeguarded in all aspects of their stay.
