Learning with adult mentors

The Urban Partnership Group (UPG), a local regeneration agency, runs a mentoring scheme that enables adults living in Hammersmith & Fulham to help others back into learning.

The Learning with Adult Mentors Project, or LAMP, trains local residents aged 19 or over so that they can advise and support their friends, neighbours, colleagues or family members about returning to education and training. The scheme is supported by the Hammersmith & Fulham Adult Education Service.

Those who are helped by a mentor may benefit from improved job prospects, greater self-confidence and a renewed involvement in community activities. The mentors themselves not only get the reward of doing something worthwhile but also receive free training and careers advice and could qualify for a City and Guilds qualification in Adult Learner Support.
