Frank Barnes is a bilingual school for deaf children. It provides a specialist environment where deaf children have full access to the Early Years Foundation Stage, National Curriculum and Deaf Studies Curriculum and they are encouraged to reach their full potential against a range of achievements, whilst also developing a positive deaf identity. It is for children who are moderately to profoundly deaf.
The school?s bilingual approach places equal value on the use of British Sign Language and English and encourages the children to be confident in both.
The school also has a bilingual 0-2 Day Care Centre for deaf and hearing babies. The School?s 0-2 Centre, set up to create an integrated community based centre where deaf and hearing babies and toddlers can play, explore and learn together through BSL and English, was also highly commended by Ofsted, as was the school?s work in supporting parents.
