What we do...

Our Sight Support Service provides outreach support for isolated, visually impaired people in the community.

We also provide a 16 week long programme of classes in IT, Safe cooking/healthy eating, art, creative writing and yoga. These run from our 3 community projects, based in Camden, Tower Hamlets and Southwark.

Sight Support Service

Our Sight Support Workers are paid members of staff who have undergone careful selection, DBS certification, rigorous training and receive continual supervision and feedback. We visit service users in their own homes, in sheltered accommodation or in residential/nursing homes.Visits, which take place every fortnight usually for an hour, are free of charge. This service is not time limited, and we aim to offer regular support for as long as there is an identified need for the service.

Aside from the invaluable emotional support of building a personal connection, Sight Support Workers can offer practical support for example:

  • Reading and writing correspondence
  • Help with accessible technology
  • Checking food expiration dates
  • Assisting and encouraging independence where appropriate
  • Information on and referrals to other organisations that support people with a visual impairment
  • Providing information on other local services and support that may be useful
  • Providing information on local activities such as social clubs, outings and events, sports clubs, lunch clubs, etc.
