Introduction
The borough has made significant strides since we declared a climate and ecological emergency in 2019.
Despite challenging economic and political conditions, and the context of a global pandemic, we are delivering on our ambitious Climate and Ecology Strategy (PDF, 624KB), developed in collaboration with residents and adopted in 2021.
The strategy outlined 5 challenges for the borough's transition to a low-carbon and resilient future:
- homes, buildings and energy
- travel
- things we use
- ecology
- adapting to a changing climate.

The following pages update on our progress in reducing our emissions, and just some of the positive action being taken by the council and our community to help deliver a resilient and thriving borough in 2030.
