Help with travel to school for young people with SEND

Children or young people with special educational needs or a disability (SEND) may be entitled to help travelling between home and school or college.

Travel assistance can include:

  • independent travel training to help a young person learn to travel safely on their own
  • a TfL Oyster card or Travelcard
  • a TfL Oyster card or Travelcard for a parent, carer or responsible adult to go with the child between home and school
  • a walking bus (where appropriate)
  • a walking escort or escorted travel by public transport
  • travel on a local authority school bus or coach
  • travel using a licensed taxi in exceptional circumstances

Who can use this service

This service is for children and young people with an education, health and care (EHC) plan).
