Occupational therapy resources

The special educational needs occupational therapy team has developed a collection of strategies for schools, parents and carers to support children and young people develop their independence with functional tasks and activities.

Developing independence in activities of daily living (ADLs)

This includes:

  • dressing
  • eating
  • toileting
  • sleep and wake cycles.

Believe it or not, these tasks can be quite complex for children to learn.

This involves using our hands and wrists to use items such as:

  • pencils
  • scissors
  • clothing
  • fasteners
  • and containers.
