Care experienced children are four times more likely to have a Special Educational Need or Disability than those who are not looked after. Care experienced children are almost 10 times more likely than other children or young people to have an Education Health and Care Plan.
The Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Code of Practice 2014 outlines the responsibility of schools, colleges, early years settings and others, for identifying and meeting the needs of children and young people (aged 0 – 25 years) with SEN or disabilities.
Hammersmith and Fulham Virtual School works closely with the Educational Psychology service who are able to offer advice and guidance to educational settings about Children Looked After, this should be discussed with the allocated Virtual School Teacher.
