A sack collection service is the best option for businesses producing smaller amounts of waste or which have no space for bin storage. If you have a sack contract with us, only H&F commercial waste sacks provided by us can be used for your collections.
General waste is collected in white sacks, recycling is collected in orange sacks. Waste and recycling sacks need to placed out for collection between 6pm and 10pm in front of your premises on your designated collection day(s).
General waste sack
White general waste sacks are for non-recyclable general waste. They must not be used for any hazardous waste, including liquids, raw meat and animal by-products, chemical waste, biological waste, dangerous or injurious materials, hot or burning material. A separate specialist provider needs to be arranged for these.
Recycling waste sacks
Orange recycling sacks are for:
- paper and cardboard
- glass
- plastic (excluding plastic bottles that have been used to contain oil or hazardous/flammable chemicals such as paint thinners etc.)
- tins and cans
- paper-based food and drink cartons (e.g. Tetrapak).
Please only place clean accepted materials in the orange sacks, if not sure, place it in white sack.

Collections
The frequency and number of your sacks collections is decided by business, the charges will depend on the number of sacks you have contracted to be collected per week. There are minimum numbers of collections we might require based on the type of business. The waste and recycling collections are available every day of the week.
How to present your sacks for collection
Waste and recycling need to be placed in the relevant sack, the sack should:
- be tied at the top
- left at the collection point agreed in your contract between 6pm and 10pm on your designated days
- be able to be lifted by one person, not weighing over 8 kg.
When placing large amounts of cardboard out for collection, it is not necessary to place the cardboard inside the sacks. Instead:
- flatten the cardboard boxes
- bundle them together
- securely wrap one orange sack around the bundle.
Each bundle must not weigh over 8 kg.
Delivery of sacks
The sacks come in rolls of 13 and are delivered to you every 13 weeks, the quantity delivered is based on your contract. If your contract is for one general waste sack and one recycling sack collected each week, you will be given one roll of each.
If you run out of your sacks before your delivery, please contact us to revise your contract or for one-off purchase of extra rolls. It is your responsibility to ensure you have enough sacks. If you haven't received your sacks, please contact us. Using any other sacks is an offence and can result in a fine.
If you notice you have sacks left over by the time you receive your next scheduled delivery, you can contact us to revise your contract. You are being charged based on number of your contracted collections, not on number of sacks used each week. No refunds are given for unused sacks. If you are behind on your payments, the sacks might be put on hold. Please inform us after making the payment in order to have your sacks released.
