North End Road improvement works

We're investing in a community-led redesign of the north end road to provide a long-term enhancement of the market, support the growth of existing and new businesses and attract more shoppers. Find out how you can have your say and help redesign North End Road.

We've started works to make North End Road an even better place to shop, eat in and visit.

Phases 1 and 2 between Lillie Road and Racton Road have been completed which has involved making the road safer by bringing market bays up to pavement level. We've also:

  • repaved the footways
  • planted new trees
  • added water and electricity for market traders.

Works have restarted to complete phases 3 and 4 between Racton Road and Halford Road. We will also be installing new seating areas in phase 1 as well as renewing the street lighting too.

North End Road market, shops, cafes, restaurants and other businesses will remain open as usual throughout the work.

The next two phases of improvement works will be completed by the end of April. We'll be working Monday to Saturday but not on Sundays.

During the works, normal two-way traffic will operate south of Anslem Road. Traffic will be made one-way northbound only between Anslem Road and Racton Road. Local access only for vehicles will be allowed southbound from Lillie Road to Racton Road. Southbound buses will be diverted via Lillie Road, Munster Road and Dawes Road. Northbound buses will operate as normal.

Residents and business owners will still be able to access their home or business throughout the work but there will be some parking restrictions and suspensions, so please look out for signs to check where you can park.
