Recycling mini bank and reusable bag

Recycling mini banks have been installed in blocks of flats.

We have installed mini banks at suitable blocks of flats.

Estates and blocks with this recycling service include:

  • Cheesemans Terrace - Blocks 6 to 13, 22 to 36, 37 to 52, 53 to 103, 104 to 115, 116 to 215 and 140 to 173
  • Cobbs Hall
  • Edward Woods - Boxmoor House
  • Linacre House
  • Margravine - Horton House
  • Passfields
  • Verulam House

The mini bank locations have been carefully selected to make sure that they do not pose a safety risk or cause an obstruction. Arrangements for the disposal of non-recyclable rubbish will remain the same.

You will have received a leaflet explaining the scheme and a new reusable bag to make it even easier to store recycling in your home and transport it to the chute.

How to use your mini bank

1. Use your bag to store recycling in your flat.

2. Take your recycling to your nearest mini bank. Keep your bag - it can be used again.

3. Dispose of your rubbish as normal.

You can recycle:

  • clean and empty mixed glass bottles and jars (please remove metal lids and put them loose in recycling)
  • clean and empty cartons (squash and keep plastic lids on)
  • clean and dry mixed unshredded paper, cardbaord and card (including telephone directories)
  • clean and empty food tins and drink cans
  • clean and empty plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays (squash and keep plastic lids on)

Top tips:

  • Large cardboard boxes block the chutes. Please flatten them and take them to your nearest Smart Bank
  • Rinse out out bottles, jars and cartons as waste food and liquid makes items unpleasant to store and sort
  • Squash plastic bottles and cartons.

Please do not put these items in your Smart Bank:

  • Small applicances
  • Aerosol cans
  • Clothes and shoes
  • Food waste.

Sorry, we can't accept any other items in the recycling mini banks at the moment. It's important to keep other items out of the recycling mini banks. They are classed as contamination and may cause the contents of the recycling mini banks to be sent for disposal rather than being recycled.

Please put items into the mini banks loose. The collection crew may mistake black bags for rubbish and the recycling may be sent for disposal.

What can't I recycle and why?
