The Gate is Yarrow's creative arts studio for people with learning disabilities. It is just off Richford Street, a five-minute walk from Goldhawk Road tube station.
They run creative workshops here so that people with learning disabilities can explore new ideas and discover their own unique voices.
Having fun at The Gate!
Their weekly programme has lots of activities from painting to fashion design to song-writing and performance. There is something for everyone and it's great fun! They welcome members of all abilities focusing on what a person can do rather than what they can't: they work with members to make sure that everyone can take part in the sessions that interest them.
There are lots of other ways to get involved too, including:
-
SOUND OFF! A fortnightly self-advocacy and campaigning group which all members are welcome to join.
-
Police training: Some members also help to provide user-lead learning disability awareness training for detectives in the Metropolitan Police.
-
Gate CUSTARD: the yearly musical showcase where you could be one of the musicians performing their latest compositions on stage.
You also perform in other concerts and exhibit in art shows. They like to show everyone the amazing work that members are producing!
