Paddington is part of the wealthiest neighbourhood in the world – the City of Westminster – but has some of the highest levels of deprivation in the country. Over the last 15 years PDT has worked alongside local people to transform the built environment and provide collaborative resources that provide skills and jobs, creative opportunities for young people, and a place where community enterprise flourishes alongside the democratisation of civil society.
PDT is a registered charity and community-based not-for-profit regeneration company delivering social and economic innovation. They are part of the Kensington and Chelsea Locality and provide advisory services to a mix of national and international organisations. PDT has been leading in local economic, environmental and social innovation for fifteen years; this remains their intent for the next fifteen years.
Formed by local people in 1997, PDT has five core values: mutuality (sharing benefits within the community); empowerment (creating opportunities for local people) financial self-sufficiency, environmental sustainability, and equalities for all communities. PDT is committed to an equitable distribution of justice and power in civil society.
Their mission is to facilitate social action and catalyse economic opportunities leading to growth in social and economic independence and wellbeing.
