KMEWO (Kurdish & Middle Eastern Women's Organisation)

KMEWO is a specialist BME organisation that works with women from Kurdish, Middle Eastern and North African backgrounds.

KMEWO provides:

  • One-to-one information, advice and advocacy support
  • Bilingual counselling in Kurdish, Arabic, Farsi, Tigrinya and English
  • A wide range of confidence building, education training and volunteering opportunities for women

KMEWO’s work responds to a number of issues Middle Eastern and North African women encounter in the UK, such as:

  • Difficulty in finding employment
  • Domestic abuse and other violence against women
  • Unsuitable housing
  • Unstable immigration status
  • Cultural differences and discrimination
  • Low confidence
