The African Health Policy Network (AHPN) is the leading policy organisation that influences policy on health and wellbeing issues that affect Africans in the UK.
They are a network of member organisations and individuals with a common goal to improve the health and wellbeing of the UK's African population. The AHPN acts as a focal point and catalyst for individuals and organisations in the African community, providing platforms to share learning and experience, to influence policy and to speak with a collective voice.
They do the following:
Policy - AHPN influences policy through research, campaigning, lobbying and advocating. They ensure that the voices of Africans in the UK are represented in national health and wellbeing policies
Programmes - AHPN runs various programmes throughout the year targeted at reducing health inequalities among the UKs African population. Most recently, AHPN ran a programme funded by Time to Change which aimed to tackle mental health stigma through working with churches and faith groups.
Membership - AHPN has a growing membership of over 200 mostly African community-based organisations who work at local, regional and national levels in the UK.
Research - Their policy position is based on evidence, assessments and the contribution of the African HIV Research Forum, which the AHPN hosts. Their other activities include a network of Africans living with and affected by HIV (Ffena), engaging with the media and faith work.
Get Involved - AHPN is regularly recruiting for policy interns, who work with our policy team and gain experience of policy, research, lobbying and campaigning.
