H&F Climate Champions

We're training local community leaders to take climate action together with residents in their area.

We've partnered with Groundwork London to train and support aspiring community leaders to gain knowledge, develop skills and to lead a community climate initiative to take forward on their own or with others.

The training and support programme will run from January to March 2025.

Key dates

The H&F Climate Champion training will take place in the form of four two-hour sessions over the following period:

  • Session 1: During w/c 13 January 2025
On the topic of: An introduction to the climate and ecological emergency in H&F and ideas to take action to tackle the crises whilst increasing multiple measures of wellbeing.
  • Session 2: During w/c 20 January 2025
On the topic of: How to discover your community's interests and needs.
  • Session 3: During w/c 3 February 2025
On the topic of: Learning from community climate action in H&F and beyond.
  • Session 4: During w/c 10 February 2025
On the topic of: Bringing it all together – developing and delivering your own idea for community climate action

We will tailor session times around successful applicants' preferences. Successful candidates will need to be available for all four sessions.

Who can apply?

You do not have to have any previous experience in, or know a lot about, climate change. You do need to demonstrate a commitment to and passion for community engagement.

The successful applicants must:

  • be H&F residents or lead on projects, supporting local people and environment, that are fully delivered in H&F
  • have an idea (however early stage) for how they want to encourage and inspire community climate action.

The projects can reflect our Climate Strategy areas. Find more examples on our H&F Climate Community Action map.

We expect applicants to demonstrate the networks they are part of such as a:

  • Local charity or community group
  • Forum such as a TRA or other residents' association
  • Faith group
  • School or educational organisation
  • Local environmental action group
  • Small business

Recognising how the climate crisis impacts different communities in different ways, we welcome a wide range of people to apply for this opportunity. If you have any access needs or would need any support to take part in the programme, you can let us know about this when you sign up for the project.
