Organising children's parties and picnics in our parks

Depending on the size of your event, you may need our permission to host a children's party in one of our parks.

Our parks are a wonderful spot to organise children's parties and family picnics.

You do not need permission to host the event in our parks if it won't:

  • exceed 30 people
  • have paid for entertainment such as a children's party planner or sports games.
  • have any infrastructure larger than a 3m by 3m gazebo
  • have a caterer
  • have inflatables.

You must apply for permission to host your event if it includes any of the above items.

Call us on 020 8753 2135 or email us at events@lbhf.gov.uk and we will send you an application form. These events are subject to a hire fee and admin fee.

Common questions

I'm only hosting a small picnic for my family and friends, do I need permission?

You do not need permission to hold a small, self-organised picnic or children's party as long as it does not include large infrastructure, inflatables or hot food for under 30 people.

You can have a maximum of one 3m by 3m gazebo (weighted down with sandbags or metal plates, not staked into the ground) and a small picnic table or fold-up garden chairs.

Permission is required, and charges apply for:

  • BBQs
  • hot food vendors
  • bouncy castles or other inflatables
  • and events that will have over 30 attendees.

You will also need permission from us and charges will apply if your event is organised by a party planner, children's entertainment, or sports company.

I'm hosting a party for my child with an organised party planner. Do I need permission?

You will also need permission from us and charges will apply if your event is organised by a party planner, children's entertainment, or sports company.

Can I have a BBQ at my event?

BBQs are only permitted as part of a professionally organised event approved by the H&F Events Team and operated by a qualified caterer. During periods of severe hot weather and drought, BBQs may not be permitted to take place.

Please fill in our application form and the team will advise further.

I want a bouncy castle at my child's party, do I need permission?

Yes. Permission is required for any bouncy castle or other inflatables you wish to bring to the park. Bouncy castles and inflatables can be dangerous if not properly managed.

They must be PIPA registered and provided by and managed on-site by a professional hire company with up-to-date and relevant health and safety documentation including public liability insurance, risk assessment and method statement.

Can I reserve a specific part of the park for my event?

Only large events can reserve specific sections of the park. It is not possible to give picnics and children's parties exclusive use of any park space.

My event is under 30 people, and has no paid-for entertainment, catering, inflatables or large infrastructure but I would like to bring a table and some chairs. Do I need an application?

No. If the only equipment you are bringing to the park is up to 3 fold-out tables and picnic chairs then you do not need permission from us.
